The dubbing of Mammootty’s upcoming movie Parunthu, directed by M. Padma Kumar, has begun in Ernakulam. Re-recording will begin on July 26 and the first copy of the movie should be ready by July 5. After the big hit Annan Thampi, Parunthu is going to be another action film laced with comedy.

The film, scripted by TA Razak, tells the story of Gillette Purushothaman, a crude money lender with an iron heart who recovers his money by any means from his borrowers. Jayasurya, Biju Kurup, Sooraj Venjaranmoodu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Cochin Haneefa, Mamu Koya, Augustin and Saju Kodiyan are others in the cast. Lakhsmi Rai and Roma are the heroines. Alex Paul is the music director and Sankeev Shankar wields the camera.

After making critically acclaimed films like Kazhcha, Tanmatra and Palunku Blessy - the path breaking director is now back with ‘Kolkata News’.He is doing his first film with Dileep, Meera Jasmine, Indrajith and Vimala Raman. It was Blessy, who introduced Meera, one of his neighbor in Tiruvalla to Lohithadas for Sutradharan, and it will be another treat to watch these national award holders, working for a film. More over Blessy is for the first time moving out of his favorite south Travancore locations to the East of India, to shoot a different mystery filled romantic story in Calcutta, much different from his earlier ones which dealt with middle men and farmers in Kerala.

This is the first Malayalam film to be fully shot here, even though  a few scenes  of G Aravindan’ s Vasthuhara, Shyamaprasad’s akale , Kamal’s Mazhayathum Munpe, and T V Chandran’s Kadhavasheshan were also shot here .And with all new cast  with the blessed  Blessy, expectations are ever time high for this film, which is taking more than normal shoot days to complete ,due to a multitude of reasons, ranging from floods in Kolkata to the clash of dates of its stars .

The plot of the film is set across the eastern metropolis, Kolkotta. Here Dileep is playing the role of a television reporter Ajith Thomas, who is working for the channel Kolkata News.  Dileep has a smashing new look in the film with stylish spectacles, hair falling on the forehead and is clad in smart casuals, playing the savvy reporter.A Malayali by birth, his family has been based in Calcutta for long, as his parents had also worked here years before. Now he stays with his mother and his brothers.

One day while investigating a story, Ajith comes across Krishnapriya’s (Meera Jasmine) pictures while going through some unused footage. She is a woman who lost her husband in mysterious circumstances, a few weeks after her marriage.  Krishna priya, who had come to the city with her husband, Hari (Indrajith), is now left all alone and is searching or her husband with her limited resources. Days after Ajith meet Krishnapriya, accidentally, and find out that she was a school dropout, who was forced into marriage at a tender age and sent to Calcutta. Seeing the grief of the lady, Ajith takes the cause as his own and starts to search for Hari with his wide media contacts. But he only realized later that slowly, he is falling in love with the true- blue, desolate women. The film is based on the happenings in one year in the life of the television journalist

Calcutta News have noted cinematographer S Kumar, who  cranks the camera for the first time in a Blessy film .Shot quite extensively in Kolkata,  the splendor of old Calcutta and its  mood has been etched in the film in a beautiful way. The locations included some of the huge bungalows, which were used for shooting in such films as Raincoat and Choker Bali.

Blessy who is a big fan of the music legend Salil Chowdhary, who has worked in 28 Malayalam films in the earlier seventies creating 112 hit songs  as music director ,has taken his former assistant Deb Jyothi to provide music for the film. Deb has been the music director of films like Raincoat and Choker Baali. The others in the film are Vimala Raman, Innocent, Maanasa, Bindu Panikkar Krishnamurti, Unni Shivapal, Tom Jacob, Oninthoi, Deepan Chatterji and host of Bengali actors. Produced by Thampy Antony in the banner of Kaayal films, the film is distributed by Century Pictures. The film is now planned to grace the theatres as a Deepavali release.

തണല്‍ മരങ്ങള്‍ ഇരുവശവും തലയാട്ടി നിന്ന കൂറ്റന്‍ വഴിയിലൂടെ ബന്‍സുകാറ്‍ ഒഴുകി എത്തി. ഉജാലയുടെ പരസ്യം പോലെ വെളുത്ത വേഷം ധരിച്ച ഡ്രൈവറ്‍ ചാടിയിറങ്ങി പിന്‍ വാതില്‍ തുറന്നു.

സായിപ്പ്‌ ! ഞങ്ങള്‍ ഐ. ടി കാരുടെ കണ്‍കണ്ട ൈദവം !

വെള്ളി വെളിച്ചം പോലെ സായിപ്പ്‌ തണ്റ്റെ പാദം ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഓഫീസ്‌ അങ്കണത്തില്‍ പതിപ്പിച്ച്‌ പ്റത്യക്ഷനായി. എന്തൊരാനന്ദം !

സായിപ്പിനൊന്നു നിവറ്‍ന്നു നില്‍ക്കാന്‍ കഴിയുന്നതിനു മുന്‍പു തന്നെ ഞാന്‍ ഓടിച്ചെന്നു. ചന്ദന ചീളുകള്‍ കൊണ്ട്‌ തീറ്‍ത്ത മാല കഴുത്തില്‍ അണിയിച്ചു. എണ്റ്റെ പുറകെ ഓടിയെത്തിയ ബോസ്സ്‌ മഹലിംഗം കൈയിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ബൊക്കെ സായിപ്പിണ്റ്റെ കൈകളില്‍ ബലമായി പിടിപ്പിച്ചു. ബൊക്കെയുടെ അരികിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന കൂറ്‍ത്ത ഇലകള്‍ കുനിഞ്ഞു നിന്നിരുന്ന സായിപ്പിണ്റ്റെ മുഖത്തെല്ലാം കൊണ്ടു. ചുവന്ന മുഖം ഉയറ്‍ത്തി സായിപ്പ്‌ ഞങ്ങളെ ഒന്നു നോക്കിയതും സിംഹരാജനു മുന്‍പിലെ എലികളെപ്പോലെ ഞാനും മഹാലിംഗവും വിറച്ചു.

കിലുക്കം സിനിമയിലെ ജഗതി ശ്റീകുമാറിനെ മനസ്സില്‍ ധ്യാനിച്ച്‌ ഞാന്‍ സായിപ്പിണ്റ്റെ കൈപിടിച്ച്‌ ബലമായി കുലുക്കി ഒരു കാച്ചു കാച്ചി

” വെല്‍ക്കം ടു ഇന്ത്യ … നൈസ്സ്‌ ടു മീറ്റ്‌ യൂ … “

ഓഫീസ്സിണ്റ്റെ നീണ്ട വരാന്തയിലൂടെ ഞങ്ങള്‍ സായിപ്പിനെ ആനയിച്ചു. കോട്ടും സൂട്ടുമിട്ട്‌, ചന്ദന ചീളിണ്റ്റെ വലിയ മാലയും കഴുത്തിലിട്ട്‌, ഗദ പോലത്തെ ബൊക്കെയും കൈയില്‍ പിടിച്ച്‌ സായിപ്പ്‌ നിവറ്‍ന്നു നടന്നു . ബാലിയുമായി ഗദാ യുദ്ധത്തിനു പോകുന്ന സുഗ്ഗ്റീവനെ പോലെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു ആ നടത്തം. ഇടവും വലവും വാനര പട പോലെ ഞാനും മഹാലിംഗവും. മറ്റു ടീമംഗങ്ങള്‍ പുറകെ.

“ഹൌ വാസ്സ്‌ യുവറ്‍ ഫ്ളൈറ്റ്‌ ?”

“ഡിഡ്‌ യു ഗെറ്റ്‌ സം സ്ളീപ്പ്‌ ലാസ്റ്റ്‌ നൈറ്റ്‌?”

“ഹൌ വാസ്സ്‌ ദി ബ്റൈക്ഫാസ്റ്റ്‌?”

എന്നെല്ലാമുള്ള, ഏതു സായിപ്പു വന്നാലും ചോദിക്കാറുള്ള സ്തിരം ചോദ്യങ്ങള്‍ ഞങ്ങള്‍ തട്ടി വിട്ടു കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. സായിപ്പ്‌ ബോംബെ എയറ്‍പ്പോറ്‍ട്ടിനെ കുറിച്ചും, എയര്‍ ഇന്ത്യ വിമാനം വൈകിയതിനെ കുറിച്ചും ചില തെറികള്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. വലിയ തമാശ കേട്ടതുപോലെ ഞങ്ങള്‍ ചിരിച്ചു. പുറകെ നടന്നു വരുന്നവരോട്‌ ചിരിക്കാന്‍ ആഗ്യം കാണിച്ചു. അവരും ചിരിച്ചു.

“ഡിഡ്‌ യൂ ലൈക്‌ ദി വെദറ്‍ ഹിയറ്‍ ഇന്‍ ഹൈദരാബാദ്‌?”

എണ്റ്റെ ചോദ്യം കേട്ടതും സായിപ്പ്‌ ദഹിപ്പിക്കുന്ന പോലെ ഒന്നു നോക്കി. നാല്‍പ്പത്തെട്ടു ഡിഗ്രിയില്‍ ചൂടു കാറ്റ്‌ അടിക്കുന്ന കാലം. ഇതും ഒരു കാലാവസ്തയോ എന്നതായിരുന്നു സായിപ്പിണ്റ്റെ ഭാവം.

സ്കോട്ട്‌ ആപ്പെസെല്ലാ എന്ന സായിപ്പ്‌ ഞങ്ങളുടെ അന്ന ദാദാവാണ്‌. ഏതാണ്ട്‌ അന്‍പതു ദശലക്ഷം അമേരിക്കന്‍ ഡോളറിണ്റ്റെ പ്റോജക്റ്റാണ്‌ സായിപ്പു്‌ തന്നിരിക്കുന്നത്‌. പണി ഇതുവരെ എങ്ങും എത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. മാസാമാസം കാശ്‌ ഞങ്ങള്‍ മേടിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്‌.

സായിപ്പ്‌ ഇടക്കിടക്ക്‌ വരും. രണ്ടുമൂന്നു ദിവസം തങ്ങും. റിവ്യൂ മീറ്റിംഗ്‌ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ്‌ എല്ലാവരെയും വിളിച്ച്‌ തെറി പറയും. അടച്ചിട്ട മുറിയിലായതു കൊണ്ട്‌ ഞങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ വലിയ പ്രശ്നമില്ല. പോകുന്ന ദിവസം സായിപ്പ്‌ ഒരു പാറ്‍ട്ടി തരും. വിസ്കിയും ബ്റാണ്ടിയും കൊണ്ട്‌ പറഞ്ഞ തെറിയുടെ നാറ്റം കഴുകി കളയും. സായിപ്പ്‌ വലിയവനാണ്‌.

സ്കോട്ട്‌ ഹൈദരാബാദില്‍ വരുന്നത്‌ രണ്ടാമത്തെ തവണയാണ്‌. കഴിഞ്ഞ തവണ വന്നപ്പോള്‍ ഞാനായിരുന്നു കൂടെ. അന്ന് ബോസ്സ്‌ മഹാലിംഗമല്ല. മലയാളിയായ രമേശന്‍ നായറ്‍.

മീറ്റിംഗുകള്‍ വളരെ ചൂടനായിരുന്നു. സായിപ്പ്‌ വഴങ്ങുന്നില്ല. ഉച്ചയാകാറായപ്പോഴേക്കും രമേശന്‍ നായറ്‍ അതാ ഒരു പരന്ന പാത്റവുമായി പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നു.

“ഐ ഹാവ്‌ എ പ്ളസണ്റ്റ്‌ സര്‍പ്രൈസ്സ്‌ ഫോറ്‍ യു… ” രമേശന്‍ നായറ്‍ വെളുക്കെ ചിരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്‌ മൂടി തുറന്നു.

അകത്ത്‌ കുരുകളഞ്ഞ നല്ല കൂഴ ചക്കപ്പഴം !

ചക്കപ്പഴത്തിണ്റ്റെ മണം എയറ്‍കണ്ടീഷന്‍ ചെയ്ത മുറിയില്‍ നിറഞ്ഞു. തുടറ്‍ന്ന് ചക്കപ്പഴത്തെ പറ്റിയും അതിണ്റ്റെ ആയുറ്‍വേദ ഗുണങ്ങളെ പറ്റിയും രമേശന്‍ നായരുടെ വിവരണം.

സായിപ്പ്‌ ഒരു ചൊള തിന്നു. ഒന്നു മടിച്ചു.

വളരെ നാള്‍ കൂടി വീട്ടില്‍ വന്ന മകനെ സ്നേെഹനിധിയായ അമ്മ ഊട്ടിക്കുന്നതു പോലെ രമേശന്‍ നായറ്‍ ആ ചക്കപ്പഴം മുഴുവനും സായിപ്പിനെ കൊണ്ട്‌ തീറ്റിച്ചു.

അതായിരുന്നു തുടക്കം. അല്‍പനേരം കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല, മീറ്റിംഗിനിടക്ക്‌ സായിപ്പ്‌ എഴുന്നേറ്റു.

“എക്സ്‌ ക്യൂസ്സ്‌ മീ … വെയര്‍ ഈസ്സ്‌ ദി റസ്റ്റ്‌ റൂം … ?”

കക്കൂസ്സ്‌ എവിടെ എന്നു കാണിക്കാന്‍ ഞാനും രമേശന്‍ നായരും മത്സരിച്ച്‌ ഓടി. സായിപ്പ്‌ ഒരു കൊടുങ്കാറ്റുപോലെ അകത്തു കയറി വാതിലടച്ചു. വ്റുക്ഷങ്ങള്‍ കടപുഴകുന്ന ശബ്ദം !

സായിപ്പ്‌ മടങ്ങി വന്നു. മീറ്റിംഗ്‌ ആരംഭിച്ചു. അധികനേരം കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല സായിപ്പ്‌ വീണ്ടും പുറത്തേക്ക്‌ ഓടി. വഴി സായിപ്പിന്‌ അറിയാമായിരുന്നു.

ഇത്‌ ഒരു എട്ടു പത്തു തവണ ആവറ്‍ത്തിച്ചു. വീണ്ടും സായിപ്പ്‌ ഓടിയപ്പോള്‍ ഓഫീസ്സ്‌ ബോയ്‌ ഓടി എണ്റ്റെ അടുത്തുവന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

” സാറേ ടോയലറ്റ്‌ പേപ്പറ്‍ തീറ്‍ന്നു. അവിടെ ഇല്ല … “

ഒന്നും സംഭവിക്കാത്തതു പോലെ സായിപ്പ്‌ തിരിച്ചു വന്നിരുന്നു. സായിപ്പേ … പേപ്പര്‍ പോലുമില്ലാതെ എങ്ങനെ …? ഞാന്‍ മനസ്സിലോറ്‍ത്തു. അത്യാവശ്യ സന്ദര്‍ഭങ്ങളില്‍ പേപ്പര്‍ പോലും വേണ്ടെന്ന് രണ്ടു മൂന്നു വാട്ടി കൂടി സായിപ്പ്‌ അന്നു തെളിയിച്ചു.

വൈകിട്ട്‌ വാടിയ ചേമ്പിന്‍ തണ്ടു പോലെ സായിപ്പിനെ ഞങ്ങള്‍ താങ്ങി കാറിലിരുത്തി. വണ്ടി വിടും മുന്‍പ്‌ രമേെശന്‍ നായരുടെ ഒരു ചോദ്യം.

” ഹോപ്‌ യൂ എന്‍ ജോയ്ഡ്‌ ദി ഫൂഡ്‌… “

തെറി പറയാന്‍ ആഞ്ഞ സായിപ്പ്‌ പെട്ടന്ന് കൈ പുറകില്‍ താങ്ങി. വണ്ടി വേഗം വിടാന്‍ ഡ്റൈവറോട്‌ ആംഗ്യം കാണിച്ചു.

“ഇത്തവണ ഞാന്‍ ആഹാര കാര്യത്തില്‍ വളരെ കെയറ്‍ഫുള്‍ ആണ്‌… ” മീറ്റിംഗ്‌ റൂമില്‍ ഇരുന്നപ്പോള്‍ സായിപ്പ്‌ പറഞ്ഞു.

വാതിലിനപ്പുറം വരാന്തയിലൂടെ സായിപ്പ്‌ ദീറ്‍ഘമായി ഒന്നു നോക്കി. ദുഖ സ്മരണകള്‍ അയവിറക്കുന്നതു പോലെ.

ചന്ദന ചീളിണ്റ്റെ മാല അപ്പോഴും കഴുത്തിലുണ്ട്‌. ഗരുഡന്‍ തൂക്കത്തിന്‌ ഗരുഡന്‍ അണിയുന്ന മാല പോലെ.

“അതിനി ഊരി വെക്കാം …” ഞാന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

“ഓഹോ … ഇനി എപ്പോള്‍ ഇടണമെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ മതി …” സായിപ്പ്‌ മാല ഊരി അടുത്തു വെച്ചു.

പ്റോജക്ട്‌ റിവ്യൂ ആരംഭിച്ചു. പതിവു പോലെ പണിയൊന്നും ആയിട്ടില്ല. തെറിയഭിഷേകം. ഇടക്ക്‌ ഒരു ചാന്‍സു കിട്ടിയപ്പോള്‍ ഞാന്‍ ചോദിച്ചു.

” ലഞ്ചിന്‌ എന്തു വേണമോ ആവോ … ?”

“ഡബിള്‍ ചീസ്സ്‌ പിസ്സാ. എരിവില്ലാത്തത്‌. വേറൊന്നും വേണ്ടാ… “

സായിപ്പ്‌ എന്നെ ഒന്നിരുത്തി നോക്കി. ഞാന്‍ വല്ല വിഷവും കൊടുക്കുമെന്ന് അയാള്‍ക്ക്‌ സംശയം ഉള്ളതു പോലെ.

കേട്ടപാതി കേള്‍ക്കാത്ത പാതി മഹാലിംഗം ചാടി പുറത്തു കടന്നു. ” ഞാന്‍ കൊണ്ടുവരാം” .

മീറ്റിംഗ്‌ തുടറ്‍ന്നു. ഉച്ചയാവുന്നു. സായിപ്പിന്ന് വിശന്നു തുടങ്ങി. എവിടെ പിസ്സാ എന്ന ഭാവത്തില്‍ എന്നെ ഒന്നു നോക്കി.

മഹാലിംഗം വാതില്‍ തുറന്ന് അകത്തു വന്നു.

“ഐ ഹാവ്‌ എ പ്ളസണ്റ്റ്‌ സര്‍പ്രൈസ്സ്‌ ഫോറ്‍ യു…”

വെളുക്കെ ചിരിച്ച്‌ മഹാലിംഗം പാത്റം തുറന്നു.

കുരു കളഞ്ഞ നല്ല കൂഴ ചക്കപ്പഴം !

മഞ്ഞ അല്ലികള്‍ കാട്ടി അത്‌ സായിപ്പിനെ നോക്കി ചിരിച്ചു.

ടാറ്‍സനെ നേരിടുന്ന ഗോറില്ലയേപ്പോലെ ഇരുകൈകളും നെഞ്ചിലിടിച്ച്‌ സായിപ്പ്‌ എഴുന്നേറ്റു.

വെടികൊണ്ട പന്നിയെ പ്പോലെ വാതില്‍ തുറന്ന് ഞാന്‍ പുറത്തേക്കോടി.
